Neil Gower has been a freelance artist and illustrator for 30 years. He has worked for most major publishing houses in the UK and US, and magazines including The Economist, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. He was Contributing Artist to Conde Nast Traveler in New York for ten years.
He has designed a huge number of book jackets across all genres - most notably the William Golding and Bill Bryson back-lists for Faber and Transworld respectively - and has worked on over 100 binding designs for The Folio Society.
His celebrated endpaper maps have been included in titles by authors as diverse as Kazuo Ishiguro, Jilly Cooper, Joanne Harris, Jo Nesbo, C J Sansom and Vita Sackville-West. He also worked with Anya Hindmarch on a collection of illustrated map tote-bags.
He has recently completed private painting commissions for Sir Roy Strong and Raymond Blanc.
He is co-author, with Alex Preston, of the illustrated literary ornithology As Kingfishers Catch Fire.
He lives and works in Lewes, Sussex.
