D&AD Legends of Design: Aubrey Powell

The Legends of Design is a new series hosted by Michael Johnson of Johnson Banks, which will dedicate a series of evenings to the life and work of legendary, landmark figures of design

We’re beginning the series with Aubrey (Po) Powell. A chance sixties encounter with Syd Barrett led to him co-founding the design company Hipgnosis, and for almost two decades their unforgettable ideas and images for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel and Paul McCartney – and countless others – defined the 20th century album sleeve. Po has since moved into film and exhibitions, including a record-breaking Pink Floyd exhibition which has toured the world.
