HBO's hit show Westworld is praised not only for its cinematography but also for its depiction of never-seen-before technologies, more specifically the futuristic UI design seen in every episode. Creative director and UX/UI designer Chris Kieffer has been instrumental in designing future user interfaces for the popular show, in what he calls fantasy user interface (FUI). 
 
Here, Kieffer unveils his creative process when designing fantasy user interfaces for films and television shows, how current product design inspires his work, and how storytelling ultimately wins over strict usability rules.
