D&AD Festival Teaser

1. Class Acts

Now, a festival wouldn’t be a festival without the big-name, main stage acts. Lucky for you we’ve got an array of inspiring talks and panels with some of the most exciting individuals in the industry. To name just a few – Trevor Eld (CCO at The Fader Magazine), Leila Fataar (Founder of Platform13), Creative Heavyweight Dave Trott and Film Director Adam Smith will all share their hard won stories and tales of creativity in culture.

2. The Exhibition

All of the 2018 D&AD Pencil winners will be displayed just as the Judges saw them, across the Old Truman Brewery. Screening rooms will show Music Videos, Film Advertising and Integrated campaigns, whilst a vast hall will display Graphic Design, Book Design and Packaging Design. Every D&AD Awards category will be covered so expect an inspiration overload.

3. The Party To End All Parties

After taking in all that stellar work at the exhibition, Thursday night brings the Ceremony, and the results. Who will take home the coveted Wood, Graphite, Yellow and Black Pencils? And for which projects? Not only is this a monumental night in the creative calendar, it’s also one hell of a party. So book yourself a ticket, and book Friday off. Trust us on that last part.

4. Guardian Masterclasses

The Guardian’s content gurus have not one, but two events to let you in on their secrets of success. Find out what makes a must-listen podcast with their chief podcast Producer, Rowan Slaney, including how to improve production and promote your content. Then Valentino D’Efilippo uncovers the essentials of infographic storytelling in a session all about data storytelling.

5. Masterclasses

Ever wanted to attend D&AD Masterclasses, but couldn't squeeze one in? You're in luck – our schedule has been condensed, giving you the opportunity to work in small groups with creatives such as LA Ronayne (Stink), Nick Eagelton (The Partners) and Will Awdry (Big Fish).

6. Not For Sale - Mother Retrospective

As well as numerous Pencils and high praise for their commercial work, the ever impressive Mother have a vast back catalogue of non-commercial projects too. Go inside Mother HQ for a nosey at 21 years worth of creative projects that have incited a positive impact on culture, plus hear from the people behind them.

7. Straight 8

If you’re an aspiring filmmaker (or just curious), then the super 8 competition Straight 8, together with music creators, Leland Originals, and with Cinelab London have one almighty event for you. In their Super 8 workshop, you’ll have the chance to make a film and create a soundtrack over just two mornings and have your masterpiece screened to the festival, before seeing it yourself. Places on this one are limited so make sure you’ve got your festival pass, and be quick to sign up when the app launches.

8. New Blood Sessions

For students, recent graduates and juniors ready to unleash their creativity on our industry, we have three sessions to get you doing just that. The Talent Business will be running two events, both aimed at helping you get your foot in the door. Then if it’s portfolio tips you’re looking for, WIX will get your book in front of leading creatives at their surgery event, a surefire way to make connections and get your name on radars.

9. The Playground

If it’s escapism you’re after, then that’s exactly what you’ll get at D&AD Festival. Head to the playground area and all your prayers will be answered. Sky will give you the chance to box with Anthony Joshua in their latest digital experience. Sightsavers are also on hand to inject fresh perspectives into your own creative outlook with their visual, physical and audio installations. And the showstopper? Slide off the top of The Shard, London's 95 story tower, and see unparalleled views with Happy Finish’s unforgettable VR experience.

10. The Fringe

Each year, as part of the festival, agencies and studios throw open their doors throughout Shoreditch (and beyond). But this year is a little different, because this time we have a whole host of fringe events focussed on wellbeing. From Ganzound meditation at ChromaYoga, to Heaps + Stacks’ zen gardening workshop and Aesop skin consultations, these sessions are all geared at giving you a break from the hectic.
