“Art direction isn’t a profession. It’s an incurable disease.”Alexandra Taylor
Alexandra Taylor has been responsible for so much award-winning work it’s hard to know where to start. As well as 200 entries in the D&AD annual. Alexandra has been awarded with 7 D&AD Yellow Pencils and 9 Graphite Pencils (formely known as Nominations). It's safe to say she's an Art Director who knows what she's doing.
In 2014, she was honoured by being the first female in 52 years to be given the President's Award at D&AD for her "outstanding contribution to advertising". She's held top-notch positions at Saatchi & Saatchi where she was appointed by her mentor, the late Paul Arden, as Head of Art before being made joint Creative Director.
She's even directed commercials through the Paul Weiland Film Company and is listed in D&AD's 'Master Class of Art Direction' book which represents the top Art Directors of all time.
Alexandra’s session is another D&AD workshop where you learn stuff by doing stuff. So expect a lively few hours that will give you a renewed enthusiasm for the craft of art direction. Alexandra will encourage your ability to enhance advertising ideas through innovative art direction. She will leave you with a deeper understanding of art direction explained and disciplines related to traditional advertising and art direction such as illustration, graphic design, photography and typography. More than anything, Alexandra will give you feedback on work she will ask you to do during the course of the session, and advice on how it might be improved.
Then there’s what Alexandra calls “practice to be perfect”, mastering visual balance and composition, adopting the right tone, and creating an appropriate execution. If you're wondering what are the best art direction professional development courses, Alexandra's session is your answer. By the end of the day, you’ll have learned her golden rules of art direction and will be able to take them away and implement immediately.
