Each night in Silicon Valley, a bus transforms into an unofficial shelter for the homeless. Hotel 22 captures a single, dramatic night on the 22 route. With Hotel 22, I gave primacy to immersion over information. Rather than tell viewers what riders might be feeling, I hoped that silence would encourage viewers to imagine it, and in doing so, engage in the act of empathy through film-watching.
