Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / White Pencil - Creativity for Good / Design - Brands / 2015

Millions of children with autism struggle to make eye contact and communicate with others. Knowing that autistic children like to interact with digital devices, Cheil Worldwide teamed with Samsung to create an interactive mobile camera app that helps autistic children improve their underdeveloped social skills. Supported by medical professionals, the app was aimed at autistic children's tech-savvy parents, who are typically familiar with Samsung products. The app trains children to recognise facial features and express their own emotions more appropriately, all while strengthening their bond with their parents. Clinical tests suggested 60% of the children made better eye contact and 40% showed improvements in their emotional expression.
