Alvio
Graphite Pencil / Product Design / Innovative Product Design / 2015
Studies show that when asthma patients track their conditions and exercise their lungs, it cuts their need for medication by up to 86%. But asthma therapy devices are dated and don't track data or offer lung training. What's more, they're boring and of no interest to kids. Alvio is a peripheral breathing trainer that controls bespoke mobile video games using breath as the input. Inhaling and exhaling controls the avatar through gameplay designed around the way in which children need to improve their lungs. Alvio tracks progress while kids play, and notifies parents if their condition changes. And because it's fun, kids keep playing and keep getting healthier.
