Somebody is a service that combines our hunger for communication, technology, avatars and outsourcing. When you send a message through the app, rather than going directly to your friend, it goes to the Somebody user nearest your friend. This stranger then delivers your message verbally. The service takes centre stage in this film for Miu Miu Women's Tales, the eighth commission in the acclaimed series of short films by women directors celebrating femininity in the 21st century. The film sums up the app's service as a series of mismatched emissaries deliver messages of hope and regret to unsuspecting recipients. Some messages elicit tears of sadness, others tears of joy, and one initiates a curious ménage à trois between two prison workers and a parched potted plant named Anthony.
