KLM launched a high altitude balloon from the Nevada Desert and held a competition where participants had to use an online programme to predict the point at which the balloon would pop. An interactive website allowed participants to navigate the prediction process, putting them in control of their guesses. The ‘smart sharing’ feature increased peoples’ chances, resulting in a viral boost on social media. To make the online experience engaging for everybody, we also designed tablet and mobile versions. On launch day, the balloon streamed live data, taking a worldwide audience on a journey to space.
