The Absolute Pitch
Graphite Pencil / Radio Advertising / Radio Advertising over 30 seconds / 2012
People with absolute pitch can identify every tone on the musical scale without any device. They can hear the tones C, D, E, F, G, A and H (German scale). With these tones, you can encode words that can only be identified by people with absolute pitch. To make sure that only the most talented young musicians apply for courses at Hanover’s University of Music, Drama and Media, we developed an effective barrier: we produced a radio ad where the contact email address chef@hmtm-hannover.de (‘chef ’ is German for ‘boss’) was encoded using tones. Our radio commercial became the first round of the qualifying examination.
