For Absa bank’s sponsorship of South Africa’s national rugby team, the Springboks, we wanted to make fans feel they really were a part of the team. We set out to create the world’s biggest team picture with the players asking fans to have their photos taken at kiosks in shopping centres. Over two days, eight photographers shot more than 10,000 fans. Retouchers then put fans into Springbok jerseys and added them to the team. On the weekend before the Springboks’ first World Cup match, the Sunday press ran with 1.3 million posters featuring all the fans who had taken their place in the Team of Millions.
