Darcel Disappoints & Fashion Week(s)

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Illustration / Illustration for Design / 2011

The Blog Darcel Disappoints follows the illustrated life of Darcel, a mostly miserable character who traverses New York observing the small moments of everyday life in a big city. Commissioned by LVMH’s online magazine Nowness to cover the spring/summer fashion week cycle, Darcel traipsed from New York to London, Milan and Paris capturing his experiences in illustration form, from the runway to backstage, from crowded after-parties to introspective moments alone. Twenty-eight illustrations, posted daily to the Nowness site, and four animations introducing the beginning of each city’s fashion week, allowed viewers to experience the fashion industry from an outsider’s perspective, almost in real time; one where getting turned away at the door was as common as fighting for a front row seat inside.
