Swallow Magazine: Devil in the Details Comic

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Illustration / Illustration for Design / 2011

Swallow Magazine is a food and travel magazine unlike any other. Presented as a bi-annual hardbound book, the magazine avoids the usual foodie clichés, showcasing compelling content, both visual and written, from a completely uncommon perspective. Instead of running a conventional travel disaster story about losing a passport while travelling across Russia’s interior, illustrator Andrew Rae and creative director James Casey created a 20-page comic that drew on Casey’s first-hand experiences, with more than a touch of magical realism thrown in for good measure (sleazy cops, romantic fantasies, and diabolical cats abound!).
