King James Bible Two Pound Coin
Graphite Pencil / Graphic Design / Applied Print Graphics / 2011
The coin celebrates the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible – one of the most significant moments in publishing history – by replicating the process of the printing press and the bible’s distribution. The aptly chosen quote, ‘In the beginning was the Word’ (John 1:1) was used as the basis of the design. In a single entity, the letters of the printing press and the print from the King James Bible are aligned and mirrored on the coin horizontally and three-dimensionally. The reversed text protrudes, representing the printing block, and the correct text is recessed, representing the printed word.
