Polar Bears

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Special Effects / 2010

The brutal impact global warming is having on the polar ice caps is illustrated in a shocking ad created by Mother London and directed by Daniel Kleinman on behalf of climate change charity Plane Stupid. The ad was made on a shoestring budget using a volunteer crew. It features polar bears falling from the sky, meeting their brutal deaths and leaving trails of blood as they crash against buildings and land on cars. MPC created the computer-generated polar bears, using proprietary tools including PAPI which simulates falling and collisions in a realistic way. Its proprietary fur software ‘Furtility’ allowed the fur to move in a lifelike way.
