Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Radio / Sound Design / 2009

The radio spot aims to increase the awareness and usage of Google Search Tips. It is a simple idea where a god-like voice cancels out the sounds of typical Istanbul city life one by one until he reaches the one sound he is searching for. The original work is in Turkish; this is the English translation. LOTS OF BACKGROUND NOISE. AS SOON AS THE VOICEOVER MENTIONS THE NAME OF A SOUND, IT IS MUTED. MAN: Silence the horn. The jackhammer. The alarm. The pounding. And that mobile. Welder, peddler, milling machines. The noisy toddlers, the loudmouth teens. Stop the bike, the motorbike And the honking, this instant! The automobiles, And that little van still driving in the distance. Turn off the music. Guys? Wind . . . aeroplane. Shut up Spot! The humming. The clinking. Sshhh. Sparrows, quiet please. And seagulls, speak no more. There you are zebra finch, You are the bird I've been looking for. Use Google Search Tips. Reduce the whole world to a single result.
