Shouting
Wood Pencil / Poster Advertising / Indoor Posters / 2009
Some of the children Barnardo’s help don’t always seem to be the most deserving; because of the tough experiences many of these young people have been through, they can come across as hostile and difficult. We’d been toying with the idea that their sometimes less-than-perfect behaviour is often in reality a cry for help. The fact that ‘shouting’ can refer to either ‘shouting abuse’ or ‘shouting for help’ unlocked the concept. The shot was taken in a rough part of Hoxton, east London. During the shoot, a nearby pile of boxes started to move – a tramp had been sleeping underneath them. The model, swearing at the photographer at the top of his voice, had woken him up.
