Challenged with creating an engaging packaging piece for Metallica’s ninth studio album, 'Death Magnetic', Turner Duckworth developed an iconic, three-dimensional CD pack using a conspicuous, sunken grave image and an innovative, layered die cut. The end product shows dirt being sucked down towards a coffin, which lies low in a deepening pit. The classic Metallica logo was reworked and a signature, typographic style created. As well as this, a design kit including logos, imagery and graphics was distributed to the band's record companies to produce promotional material around the world, ensuring this album is truly one of a kind.
