Through a series of extraordinary interviews, this book explores the gap and overlap between real crime and its representation in the arts. It includes authors, actors and directors, plus bank robbers, prisoners, victims of crime and the police. David Cronenberg, Viggo Mortensen, Samantha Morton and Ice-T are all featured. The screenprinted cover – a scene from an unknown crime – refers to 50s thrillers, drawn using scraperboard to give a gritty immediacy. The paper is similar to a pulp-fiction novel, and the headlines inspired by American newspapers of the 40s. Red gilded edges give the book a hardboiled but seductive feel.
