Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Direction / 2008

A job applicant sits in a chair facing an interviewer. The applicant wears a white shirt with a coffee stain on the front. The interviewer asks a question and the applicant responds. As he talks, the stain on his shirt responds simultaneously. It moves its fabric lips, emitting garbled nonsense, similar to English but completely incomprehensible. Our applicant goes on with his spiel proudly, as if all is well and he is doing a good job. The interviewer seems to want to listen to the applicant, but he has difficulty paying attention. He stares at the talking stain self-consciously, like you stare at a stranger’s hairy mole. The strap comes up: Silence the stain – Tide to Go.
