Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Production Design / 2008

Our goal was to engage people who didn’t like, care or even know about Halo, with Halo 3, the futuristic humans versus aliens sci-fi video game. We wanted people to connect emotionally with the story and its perpetually armoured but very human hero, Master Chief Petty Officer John 117. To achieve this, we first created the John 117 monument, a real world, 1,200 square foot diorama that documented a historic battle in which Master Chief heroically turned the tide of war. Then we filmed the action, with Rupert Sanders behind the camera and Chopin on the soundtrack.
