Livraria da Vila

Award: Yellow Pencil

Yellow Pencil / Environmental Design / Retail & Services / 2008

Livraria da Vila is the result of the refurbishment of a two-storey house, on a narrow plot in São Paulo. The composition of low-ceiling spaces, dark tones, indirect lighting and countless shelves in careful disarray, covering the walls from floor to ceiling, gives the shop an unpretentious feel from whichever direction one looks at it. The space is reminiscent of used-book stores, putting customers at ease and encouraging them to browse the shelves, leaf through or even read books in the couches and easy chairs scattered throughout the building. The pivoting window shelf doors and the voids connecting one floor to the next offer an unexpected invitation to customers to enter and explore the store and its various spaces.
