The new idents for Film4's launch as a free to air channel needed to capture the essence of cinema. Having settled on extreme slow motion as the method, using the fastest Photo-Sonics cameras we could find, we required the action being filmed to have a moment of extreme impact to trigger the appearance of the Film4 logo. Stunt work has always been part of the fabric of film-making, and at speeds of up to 1,000 frames per second even the most violent act – an exploding building, a man falling into water, a woman falling out of a skyscraper – takes on a surreal beauty.
