Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / TV & Cinema Advertising / TV Commercials 41 - 60 Seconds / 2007

A group of underprivileged children put on a play, using props and costumes found on the street, to ask viewers to go shopping for them. However, the items they request – a decaf skinny latte, a foot spa, mascara – are not what we would expect disadvantaged kids to want. At the end of the ad, we learn that when people shop using a Nedbank credit card, a portion of what they spend goes to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. The kids depicted in the ad know that no matter what people buy, they will ultimately benefit.
Many of the children featured in this ad were from orphanages and homes around South Africa that receive financial assistance from the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
