DXL Protective Helmet

Award: Yellow Pencil

Yellow Pencil / Product Design / Leisure / 2007

DXL is a new snowboard and ski protection helmet line with a novel approach: fit, feel and form that adapt to the wearer's head and protect it. We looked for ways to make protection elegant with great design and innovative engineering, while creating an entirely new approach to head-fit. The uniqueness of the DXL Protective Helmet is in its adjustable fit: it is the first helmet that adapts to different sized and shaped heads through four movable internal plates adjusted by the user through a cable system. This makes wearing a helmet easier, and has also simplified the helmet production run dramatically: instead of the typical five-size run to fit different heads, the DXL helmet fits all with only two sizes.
