Bernie Grant Arts Centre / Developing Culturally Diverse Artists
Wood Pencil / Graphic Design / Catalogues & Brochures / 2007
The brochure promotes the vision behind the forthcoming arts centre, designed by David Adjaye, which aims to support the development of culturally diverse artists. The brochure reflects the physical qualities of the architecture in both colour and form, using high gloss black stock combined with vivid red and yellow highlights, the colour palette of the interior, inspired by the flag of Guyana (Bernie Grant's birthplace). The dark purple colour reflects the purple heart, a native wood of Guyana and a key material in the auditorium building. The angled typography reflects the interlocking detailing of the campus flooring that connects the three main buildings. This herringbone design symbolises the exchange and fusion of ideas, where cultures and art come together.
