Cardiac Theatres Suite Interactive installation

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Digital Installations / Digital Installations / 2007

Research demonstrates that patients exposed to nature and natural scenery often benefit from smoother operations and faster recovery times. Using this research and conducting our own patient trials, we developed a nature-inspired installation for the waiting area of the Cardiac Theatres Suite at Harefield Hospital. The centrepiece of the installation is 'The Nature Window', a projected vista that allows patients to watch and interact with the scenery and natural phenomena. Interaction is enabled by simply pointing the specially developed wireless mouse. Accompanying this is a series of wooden wall-mounted landscape sculptures, bespoke-designed furniture and a calming soundscape, which add to the overall tranquillity and relaxing effect of the experience.
