Cry Out for Joy, You Lower Parts of the Earth
Wood Pencil / Graphic Design / Brochures & Catalogues / 2006
Artist Karin van Dam makes giant installations that can be best described as 'futuristic cities' big enough to dwell in. This catalogue is not only a history of her past work but also an artefact that fits into her oeuvre. Tactility, a variety of materials, printing, binding, die-cut and varnished texts are a logical consequence of her work. The book, like her work, is predominantly black (including the edges of the pages) and the drawings are printed in black and silver to suggest her graphite pencil tones. The photos of her installations are ordered in such a way that the reader can experience moving through them. The pop-up on the inside back cover is an original work by Karin van Dam especially made for the book.
