McKinsey Design & The Case For Her / 2019
In the UK sanitary products are considered 'luxury' items and taxed 5%, making them more expensive and even more inaccessible. A few items deemed more important than sanitary products and not taxed at all include helicopters, alcoholic jellies, toffee apples and bingo.
The Period Card aims to pay the tax back. It allows you to collect points every time you buy sanitary products, which you can then redeem on brands with the colour red in their corporate branding (Costa, Netflix, Ryman's etc). Rewards include a free drinks or snacks and discount codes.
