New Blood Entry — Glean

Award: Wood Pencil

Hellmann's / 2018

In supermarkets, in our own homes and on farms, we waste food. After the harvest, 30% of the crop doesn't make it off the field. It's left there to rot and the only reason is ascetics. Crooked vegetables don’t meet consumer standards and are not worth selling. Farmers have to leave them behind and let their work rot away. To solve this problem, we need to take a look at history books. In ancient times gleaning gave poor people the right to clear food from harvested fields. Today we can apply this principle to salvage our waste. Reintroducing: Glean.
