Exploring the remarkableness of the situation M.I.A. was in when she performed at the Grammys in 2009, we wanted to convey lightheartedly the notion of her being so late in her pregnancy she was ‘about to pop’. Looking at the idea of M.I.A. ‘about to pop’ we wanted to visually represent the event by using a balloon in a tense situation also about to pop as a visual metaphor for M.I.A.’s performance.
