REWARD CURIOSITY. The Beauty of the V&A museum is its accessibility to anyone and everyone with a common interest in art. The aim of my execution is to ignite curiosity, to entertain, to educate, and fundamentally to create an ongoing relationship between the public and the hoarding itself. I strongly believe simplicity is key. My concept is uncomplicated, but effective. What are two everyday elements that create curiosity. Firstly, a peephole into an area you ‘shouldn’t’ be allowed to see, and crowd of people staring at something you cant yet see. By putting these two elements together I created a hoarding bustling with life size crowds, all staring at something you cannot see. Along the entire hoarding, in amongst the ‘crowds’ are peepholes. To the viewer’s surprise there is an enclosed exhibition room with an incredible array of art works that they would never have seen unless they didn’t follow through with their curious thoughts. Behind the hoarding, is 8 exhibition rooms that can showcase all the wonderful art this world has to offer. The hoarding speaks to a viewer on an instinctual level of curiosity, because the exhibitions can be changed, interest can never be lost in the hoarding and its meaning. Conversations and discussions and information can be posted on a page on the V&A site, and a twitter page can be created, devoted to keeping the public in the know as to which artists will be showing their work next. This concept creates an ongoing relationship with the public, it doesn’t get boring and it can be used as a means to showcase artists that will be featuring in the new exhibition area in the future. It might not follow the technical parameters expected, but this idea has enough potential for the dimensions of the hoarding to be re-thought.
