Proposition: Offer students the opportunity to takeover It’s Nice That’s homepage for a day in a series of meritocratic temporary exhibitions of exceptional student work. Each month It’s Nice That will collaborate with the students of one of the UK’s top creative institutions: giving them an opportunity for their work & ideas to be showcased. The takeovers do not have to be big or intrusive. In fact, it is actually more important for It’s Nice That to maintain a certain level of control and curation in the student takeovers in order to benefit all the parties involved, namely: students, readers and It’s Nice That. There should however be a clear option for readers coming to the site to “continue to It’s Nice That.com” exiting the takeover and restoring the usual content The Takeovers once complete are archived online In the ‘Regulars’ Section of the blog a selection. Another alternate narrative would be that The Takeover for longer than a day but rather that automatically launching when a reader visits Its Nice That.com it Students or collectives of students apply, by submitting their latest piece of work accompanied by a 200-word explanation how they would like to takeover the homepage. One student or collective is chosen per month from the applicants, and It’s Nice That - helps them to envisage their homepage takeover which lasts for a day. The best content is also featured in the Bi-annual magazine. At the end the end of the year a second round of engagement with the Takeovers of the past 12 months takes place in the form of an online vote from the ‘Takeover of the year’. The winner of which receives a write up in the annual. The product of the 12 months of student takeovers could potentially cross over into an event be translated into a physical exhibition in one location This opportunity will be promoted to the students themselves primarily through a promotional animation but also by: An article on It’s Nice That explaining the concept, featuring the promotional animation, Embarking on a wider discussion advising students on how to get there work out there. Posters and inspirational pack to be sent out to universities, It’s Nice That potentially taking over university home-pages in a tit for tat manner - ill take over yours, if you take over mine.
