New Blood Entry — Hyejung Min
Open Brief - What Else Do You Do? / 2011
We live in a very complicated, multidimensional world. How we feel is often determined by how we think we should feel. My work is about shallow (OR fleeting) images—short impressions of moments—and how we construct our memories from those pieces. This book is about the dizziness of overwhelming marketing strategies. Most of the time the strategies are complex and concrete and we cannot easily access that.
I create patterns for each slogan than I collected from bargain sale promotional posters. The patterns make people’s eyes vibrate (gazes blur) and intensify the confusion. Sometimes we can peep through a crevice and notice their intention, selling products. For showing hidden meaning, I punch and cut holes in the paper, and then readers are able to see things in their true colors.
