Welcome to the D&AD President's Lectures Autumn 2008

As a designer, I hate being pigeon-holed. I like ideas and I don't care where they come from or where they go: a box, a poster or a TV screen. The best place to find ideas is in life. So for my first D&AD President's Lectures series, I have invited a wide range of creatives from all walks of life.

Kyle Cooper is flying in from LA, and if you think some of your clients are hard, welcome to Hollywood. Kyle is responsible for some of the best title sequences ever, including Se7en and Gattaca. It will be a privilege.

Michael Peters ran the 'University of Design'. As well as spawning hundreds of start-ups, he dragged design out of its cottage industry mentality and awoke creatives and the boardroom to the importance of design. He also introduced me to my wife, which was nice.

Forget web 2.0 and 'next life' speak, this is the real world as delivered by a true maverick, Sanky from AllofUs. Difficult to label - thank god - and to pin down. Hold on for the ride.

While other people have been talking the talk about joined up thinking for donkey's years, Matt Pyke, Universal Everything, has been walking the walk. Universal Everything, actually does everything, the clue's in the title. The way they do it is even more impressive.

And just in case you didn't know or had forgotten, D&AD gives nearly £2m back through its education activities each year. Which helps bring along the next generation of Coopers, Peters, Pykes and Sankys.

Because remember - we all started somewhere.

So come along, enjoy the talks, and consider getting involved with D&AD - it's not all about winning a pencil that doesn't actually work.

Share the love and give a bit back.
