The 2004 D&AD New Blood Exhibition is an integral part of the first D&AD Congress 2004 and took place at Old Billingsgate London EC3R.It was the biggest New Blood exhibition to date with 85 stands showing the best graduate work from more than 70 courses in graphic design, advertising, digital media, packaging and product design, illustration, photography and communication arts.

Leading creatives and journalists selected the best of this year’s graduate talent and D&AD awarded them with the accolade Best New Blood. The 23 winners were selected from the D&AD New Blood exhibition of over 70 design and advertising courses which showcases almost 1,500 creative graduates at Billingsgate, London.

At the exhibition, which is visited by over 3,500 leading industry guests each year, the winning work is identified with D&AD medals. In addition to receiving exposure, the winning graduates are also be invited to become D&AD New Blood Members, to be showcased on D&AD talentpool as well as a token cash prize.

Work from Glasgow School of Art particularly caught the judges eyes this year, with five graduates chosen as the most exciting new creative talent of 2004 some receiving more than one nomination. Judges, Zoe Bather from Frost Design and Nathan Gale from Creative Review commented that Glasgow showcased: ‘A fantastic body of work, thoroughly researched, in depth and executed beautifully.’

Michael Hockney, Chief Executive, D&AD, said “It is crucial that we foster and develop the creative talent to ensure that the graduates we get are of the highest standard possible. We must not assume this will always be the case; we have to work at it to ensure we maintain our creative edge.”
