Paula Scher is America’s first lady of design.
Scher has spent the best part of forty years designing award-winning graphics for leading blue chip companies and respected cultural institutions. Along the way she has earned herself a reputation as a smart communicator who doesn’t mince her words.
In the 70’s she designed album covers for CBS and Atlantic Records before moving onto art direction for magazines. In 1991 she became a principal at the New York office of Pentagram where she has produced celebrated work for the Public Theater, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the Museum of Modern Art, Bloomberg, Coca-Cola, Tiffany & Co., Citibank and The New York Times Magazine.
In 2001 she was awarded the AIGA Medal in recognition of her contribution to design and in 2002 she published her career monograph ‘Make It Bigger’. She is also an accomplished artist known for her large-scale paintings of maps.
Scher will be reviewing her career, showing her work and discussing her sources of inspiration.
