This landmark exhibition explores the role of costume design in cinema storytelling in a backstage environment of stage references, studio lighting, music and animations. Deconstructed costume elements are displayed alongside quotes, images and moving media. Gallery One, ‘Deconstruction’, explores the art of character construction, showing how the screenplay creates the character. Two, ‘Dialogue’, examines how the creative collaboration between filmmakers, costume designers and actors contributes to character development. Three, ‘Finale’, is a celebration of 50 of Hollywood’s most iconic characters brought to life.
