Christoph Behling

Christoph Behling

Behling completed a diploma in Industrial Design in 1995 at the Art Academy in Stuttgart before working as a designer in leading design practices in both Tokyo and London.

In 2004 he established his own studio, Christoph Behling Design Ltd and has worked across a variety of industries and categories, including communication technology, fashion, luxury goods, watchmaking, water sanitation and transport.

He has worked with international clients including TAG Heuer, Nokia, Dior, Versace, Fred, Lacoste, amongst others. Behling’s studio is the lead designer for TAG Heuer, a collaboration which has become one of the most awarded in this industry, winning the prestigious Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve three times, as well as winning the iF Design and Red Dot awards three times.

In parallel, Behling formalised his passion for sustainable design by starting SolarLab Research & Design Ltd in 2005. SolarLab has created and developed a range of solar-powered transport and architectural designs and is responsible for the world’s biggest solar boat, the Hamburg SolarShuttle, as well as the Serpentine SolarShuttle in London. The SolarShuttle has become an international icon of sustainable design, winning awards from CondeNast Design & Innovation and Travel & Leisure best transport design amongst others. Behling is a Masters-level teacher at the Royal College of Art in London, where he has taught the course for Design Products since 2004 and he has been on the judging panels of design and sustainability competitions across Europe.
