Échirolles, Mois du Graphisme
Each year, the city of Échirolles organises a one-month festival devoted to graphic design, which is an important rendezvous for students and professionals. The theme for 2009 was the celebration of writing systems. The typeface ‘Aleph’, designed by Philippe Apeloig, was originally inspired by hand-written calligraphy. The poster invites readers to look at the waywords are read and to appreciate the aesthetic shapes of letters. An energetic design was developed for motion graphics by treating the letters as separate elements. They move, repeat and disappear following the rhythm of a Maurice Ravel score, hence the design has been influenced by modern dance.
