cobi™ chair
Graphite Pencil / Product Design / Work & Industry / 2009
The Cobi™ chair is a response to collaborative environments and new working methods, which involve team meetings and periods of concentrated sitting on shared chairs. A flexible platform supporting a wide demographic range through self-adjusting features was paramount, as chairs were being shared regularly. As a solution to their problem. Steelcase have designeda a revolutionary rocking mechanism which adjusts to users’ centre of gravity, not weight. A fluted co-moulded back has fingers that flex like a second rib cage, adjusting to back shape vertically and laterally as well as tortional twisting. An elastomeric band controls spread and provides a pliable edge for side sitting.
